Roy_Award_April-300x226 (2)

As a family-owned business, Hodnett Cooper takes pride in celebrating the individuals who contribute to our success every day. Our founder, Roy Hodnett, continually emphasizes the importance of a positive attitude.

Every month this year, Hodnett Cooper Real Estate will be presenting the “Roy Hodnett Positive Person Award” to one team member in the Brunswick office and one team member in the St. Simons Island office. The award can be given for any number of reasons that fall under the “positive person” umbrella. For example: helping a fellow employee with a difficult situation, participating in a charitable event, rescuing a dog, covering the front desk for a sick employee or taking food to a family in need. The award winner is the person that never says “no” when someone needs assistance, or the person that always makes you smile. The award recipient chooses the next month’s recipient based on those criteria.

Last month’s recipients, Carly Oxenrider, of our Brunswick office, and Emily Holcomb, of our St. Simons Island office, nominated and awarded the recipients for May:

Melissa Johnson – as Carly describes, “I chose Melissa because every day, no matter how busy she is, I am always greeted by her smiling face at the front desk. She remains positive, even when things are not going well, or as expected. Melissa consistently exceeds expectations,” said Carly.

Holly Ponsell –Emily Holcomb passed the award to Holly Ponsell for her leadership and astute business skills. “Holly is a great businesswoman, and is always helpful in coaching and training our newer agents,” said Emily.

All of us at Hodnett Cooper thank and congratulate both Melissa and Holly!

MemorialDay_Flags_iStock_000003612622Smallby Rachel Fitzpatrick

On Veterans Day, I’m reminded of a moving experience I had a few years ago when I was showing homes to a potential buyer. We walked into a lovely home and we all started to “ooh” and “ahh” over how well kept and well decorated the home was.

I couldn’t help but notice a sketch of a young man who looked familiar. I assumed we had gone to school together, but couldn’t place him. Then I noticed more pictures, framed newspaper articles, and finally a wall of remembrance. It dawned on me at that very moment that I did indeed recognize that man, that soldier.

He was the one who gave his life for my freedom. I stood in awe as I walked around the room and noticed all of the ways his mom paid tribute to her fallen son. She had uniforms folded and displayed, medals framed and of course, a framed United States flag. As my buyer walked the house admiring the details, I stood there and let the tears fall as I read the articles, letters, honors, and felt the family’s pride and loss. It was a humbling experience…to think of having a loved one taken in an instant.

On this and every Veterans Day, I am thankful for those brave soldiers! I am proud of my daddy, my brother-in-law, uncles, cousins and all who have served. They wake up every day, put on their uniforms and represent me, you and our country. I am proud of the example they set for my son and many other children who see their dedication and honor.

To that sweet mother who is with a home full of memories, but without her son: Thank you. Thanks to your son. He is not forgotten! Many blessings to all who serve and sacrifice this Veterans Day.
