“Founded in 1996, The Golden Isles Veteran’s Council consists of a group of representatives from local Veteran Service Organizations in the Golden Isles of Georgia that cumulatively represent thousands of veterans. Our purpose is to promote and foster, at all times, a close and cordial relationship between all veterans and veterans organizations in the Golden Isles. We also coordinate the activities of the various veterans organizations, advising in all matters pertaining to veterans as well as safeguarding and promoting the interest of veterans whenever possible.
We accomplish this through three ongoing activities and efforts:
· We plan, produce and execute the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Brunswick Georgia. The ceremony is held on the National Memorial Monday, each May. This ceremony includes honoring the Patriot of the Year from the Golden Isles.
· We plan, produce and execute the annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony each November 11th on St. Simons Island, Georgia. This ceremony includes honoring the Veteran of the Year from the Golden Isles and is conducted in St. Simons Village and the Waterfront Casino facility.
· We also disseminate appropriate information and host guest speakers that help us – help veterans with their questions.”
