Destination: Sea Island, Georgia
Sea Island is a five-mile-long, half-mile-wide private, gated barrier island in Georgia’s Golden Isles, which include St. Simons Island, Brunswick, Little St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island. Known for its pristine natural surroundings, world-class golf, and scenic walking trails, it’s been a popular destination since the 1920s. Because lodging on the island is limited and fills up quickly, many visitors opt to stay on nearby St. Simons Island, or Jekyll Island, about 30 minutes south. Both offer lovely beaches, fabulous dining, and seasonal events, making them ideal base camps offering plenty of exploration!
“We love taking a day and spending it at the beach in St. Simons or Jekyll Island, coffee in hand, and watching the water come alive with birds and dolphins.”
Where is Sea Island?
Sea Island sits roughly halfway between Jacksonville, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia, about a 1.5-hour drive from each city. The island is also within easy reach of several major cities: about 2.5 hours from Charleston, 3.5 hours from Orlando, and 5 hours from Atlanta, making it convenient no matter where you’re coming from. If you’re flying in, you have several options. Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK) is 15 minutes away, the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is roughly 1.5 hours south, and the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is about 1.5 hours north.
“The drive to the Golden Isles always feels like a little escape. We come through Brunswick and the waterways, the oak trees…suddenly you’re somewhere completely different and it’s magical!”
