No matter why you seek the sand between you toes, you’ll find that the beaches of the Golden Isles have what you’re looking for. We’ve listed a few noteworthy beaches that are easy to find and will ensure lasting memories of St. Simons Island and the Golden Isles.
GOULDS INLET. Located north of the Coast Guard Station, Gould’s Inlet is a haven for the outdoor enthusiast. Runners and walkers enjoy the packed sand and long stretches of beach; while paddleboarders and kayakers seek the calm waters and inlets. With limited parking its best to go first thing in the morning or later in the evening when beachgoers have headed home.
COAST GUARD STATION. Located on First Street of Each Beach this is a central beach location for any beachgoer. At high tide you can ride the waves, and at low tide enjoy fishing or looking for sharks’ teeth. With plenty of parking, and a lengthy boardwalk making it handicap accessible, this is one of the most popular beaches on St. Simons Island.
MASSENGALE PARK. Located off Ocean Boulevard, this beach access point is ideal for families with kids. With lots of parking, bathrooms, shaded picnic tables, and a super fun playground you are sure to keep the kids, both big and small ones, entertained all day.
DRIFTWOOD BEACH. Located at the Northern end of Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach is a photographer’s dream, as well as families and nature lovers. As one of the most photographed beaches in the Golden Isles, this is the perfect spot to enjoy one of a kind pictures or walk among the extraordinary beach and search for birds and other wildlife.
GREAT DUNES PARK. Also located on Jekyll Island, but in the center of the island, Great Dunes Park is the perfect spot for a late afternoon dip in the ocean and party with friends. Fit with outdoor showers, green spaces, a beach volleyball court, and outdoor grills, Great Dunes Park is a perfect option for a Friday night picnic with friends.
ST. ANDREWS BEACH. As the only west-facing beach on Jekyll Island, St. Andrews Beach is a romantic retreat at the end of the day. Located at the southwest facing side of Jekyll Island, this slice of beach overlooks the Jekyll Sound and is the perfect way to end your day.
