Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day Weekend on St. Simons Island by strolling the gorgeous beaches or playing with your kids in the sand! The weather is beautiful, sunny and 70 degrees to be exact! Once you finish taking in the salt air and ocean breeze head to the village area and enjoy a day browsing through the island shops. As the old folklore, has it if you aren’t wearing green you will get pinched! We have plenty of shops throughout the Village and on the Island that you can find green. Visit Go Fish Clothing, Hope’s, or Island Breeze Clothing to find your green apparel. Don’t let your four-legged family members get pinched for forgetting their green! Stop by Island Dog, they have St. Patrick’s Day apparel for your fur babies! You could also make a stop by Smallcakes on Frederica Road and enjoy a St. Patrick’s themed cupcake! These vanilla cupcakes with green sprinkles look delicious! If you’d like to finish your day off in true Irish fashion and have a Heineken at Mellow Mushroom. With indoor and outdoor seating, it is an island favorite. They are known for serving great Pizza but they also have a packed menu of delicious items on their menu as well as a unique and diverse selection of Craft Beer!

Dine like a local and enjoy local restaurants like Southern Soul BBQ, Southern Magazine’s “The South’s Best BBQ 2017”. Or you can dine beachfront or marsh front with options like Brogen’s, Echo, or Marshside Grill. Local Chef Dave Synder also has several great options for you to choose from at any of his restaurants, Tramici, Halyrads, or La Plancha!

Bike to the beach and beyond! Rent bikes from Ocean Motion Surf Co. and cruise the island with the breeze blowing through your hair. With bike paths throughout most of the island you can get almost anywhere you want to go! Or cruise to the beach, park your bike and enjoy some time relaxing on the soft sand with the ocean waves crashing in the background

Shop ’till you drop! With so many great local shops you won’t leave empty handed. From boutique style home décor and clothing shops to wine and candles stores you will find treasures you just can’t live without. Check out Dutchman’s for true southern décor or Redfern Village or the Shops at Sea Island for numerous clothing, home décor, and children’s shops

Have fun in the sun! Of course, our main attraction on St. Simons island is the Beach! You can’t beat a relaxing day with family and friends relaxing with the coastal sun shining bright. Grab a towel and some chairs and head to the closet beach access to get your day of relaxation started.

The Golden Isles is filled with great history so if you are a history buff take some time out of your schedule to visits monuments like Fort Frederica, Christ Church, or hop on the trolley tour to see all the great points of interest the island has to offer!

The 2018 Pup Crawl Bark For Life Kickoff event is happening tomorrow morning from 11am until 2p. $25 at the gate will get you in the door! You don’t want to miss this awesome fundraising event; you and your furry friends will have a blast. Be sure to make your way to 410 Mallery Street between 10:15am and 11:30am to get registered. By coming out and supporting the Bark for Life you will be helping the American Cancer Society save lives! Don’t miss out!

With Black History Month ending you will not want to miss out on learning about the slave ship Wander that brought people to Jekyll Island in 1858. You will get a behind the scenes look and to hear real live experience as well as enjoy a sneak peek of the upcoming exhibit. Tomorrow is your last opportunity to go visit so be sure to be at St. Andres Picnic Area on Jekyll tomorrow at 2pm.

Fort Frederica Nation Monument is hosting a celebration of Robert S. Abbott. If you don’t know much about Abbott you have got to come to Fort Frederica to hear about all the amazing stories about him! He was born to former slaves on St. Simons Island but grew up to launch the nation’s most important newspaper which helped him to become one of the first Black millionaires. Among many other accolades for his personal achieve his homes are also listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places and he has a ship, school, and park named after him!

If you are up for a challenge the Island Treasure glass float hunt is perfect for you! As history has it these glass floats were once used to mark the nets of fisherman and occasionally they would get away and wash ashore. Now Jekyll Island selects artist from all over the country to create these one of a kind glass floats for lucky beach goers to find and keep!

Bob Meredith, who is originally from Georgia and now resides in the golden isles has been oil painting for over 40 years, he enjoys painting anything from custom portraits to landscapes to still life’s. He is known world wide for his most recent work in which he recreated store fronts that can be found in different places through out the country and world.

Cannon’s Point History Tours

January 13th, 2017

Come visit Cannons Point and get a glimpse into what life was like at cannons point during the plantation period. Tour groups will meet at the A.W. 8th Annual Pull for a Kid Tug O’War

Come out and support the Pull for a Kid organization when sends almost 40 kids to summer camp each year. All the money is raised at this family friendly. Bring a team of 5 friends, family or coworkers and come PULL! Divisions: Women, Men, High School, Coed. $100 entry donation per team.

St. Simons Land Trust Oyster Roast

January 14th, 2017

Join the St. Simons Land Trust for its 17^th annual Oyster Roast which will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gascoigne Bluff. Local chefs will be preparing and donating Southern favorites like Low Country Boil, BBQ, and Oysters. There will be live music by the folk singer and acoustic guitarist Owen Plant. Tickets are $75 each.
