Crafts in the Village – Select Weekends

Stroll under magnificent live oaks at Crafts in the Village, a popular event held on select weekends at Postell Park in Pier Village. With up to 70 artists and crafters participating each weekend, it’s a great place to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts. From coastal art and jewelry to pottery, furniture, and specialty foods, Whether you’re looking to support local artisans or scratch those last few items off your Christmas list, you’ll find the perfect hand-made item at this ‘rain or shine’ event!

Art Under the Oaks Festival – September

Art Under the Oaks is a renowned two-day juried art festival in picturesque Postell Park. This dynamic showcase attracts visitors from all over, eager to share their impressive collections of handmade artwork. This fall festival features over 60 talented artists from the region, displaying works in diverse mediums, including painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, photography, and more. With so many beautiful pieces on display, you’ll have no problem finding something special to take home to remind you of your time on St. Simons Island!

Silver Bluff Oktoberfest – September

This might be your only opportunity to don your lederhosen this year—or at least enjoy watching others do so. Come out and enjoy a full day of festivities as Brunswick puts its own spin on this traditional fall festival featuring Oktoberfest-themed activities and games, ice-cold beer, German food, and a live German band.

Firebox Barbecue on the Bluff – October

Join others in their eternal quest for the tastiest barbecue at this annual fall festival. Founded by the Firebox Initiative, this charitable event raises funds to help those in the hospitality and service industry facing financial hardship. The widely popular fall event brings together some of the South’s top pitmasters, offering ribs, brisket, chicken, and more. Learn from the best and sample their masterpieces while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

Georgia-Florida Weekend – October

The Georgia-Florida football game has been a national event held in Jacksonville, Florida, since 1933. This traditional celebration is one of the greatest football rivalries in the country and one of the most prominent games in college football. Scheduled events leading up to the big game make it fun for Bulldog and Gator fans alike, so don your best gameday gear and get ready for this fantastic football matchup steeped in tradition.

Under the Oaks Run – October

Kick off the fall season with a scenic run on Jekyll Island! Enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery while challenging yourself on the 5K, 10K, or half marathon course. You’ll also enjoy stunning views of the Jekyll River as you traverse through beautiful neighborhoods and lush landscapes. Ghosts and Legends of Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation – October

Discover the captivating history and tales of coastal Georgia’s last surviving rice plantation. As you explore this beautifully preserved property, including the historic plantation house and outbuildings, knowledgeable guides will share fascinating stories of plantation owners and the African Americans who worked there, both during slavery and after emancipation.

CoastFest – October

Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Brunswick is the place to be for a fall festival you won’t want to miss. On the agenda? A shrimp eating contest, an art competition, and plenty of fun, educational activities designed to teach visitors about the rich heritage of our beautiful coastal communities. Running of the Bulls – October

Shrimp and Grits Festival – October

RSM Classic – November

Watch over 150 competitors battle it out on the fairways at the Seaside and Plantation courses over four days of intense competition.

The Moxie Craft Fest is happening this Friday, you wont want to miss this one of a kind market! Held in downtown Brunswick, you will get to see local artisans handmade goods which bring a fresh and eclectic vibe to the Golden Isles. This unique, hip Craft Fest will be from 5pm to 10pm and will have live music, food and of course tons of funky handmade crafts!

With spring in full gear here on St. Simons one great way to spend your Saturday is by enjoying all the beautiful gardens on the island. Cassina Garden Club presents their annual Garden Walk Week by taking you through 7 private gardens that are tended to by the owners or initiated by professional designers. Entry Fees cover the tour of gardens, marketplace with local vendors, garden party and entertainment.

On Sunday head to Gascoigne Bluff for the Golden Isles Food Truck Festival. Who doesn’t love a good food truck festival?! Complete with live music, craft vendors, family friendly activities, AND free yoga in the park. Its free to attend so be sure to check it out.

Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day Weekend on St. Simons Island by strolling the gorgeous beaches or playing with your kids in the sand! The weather is beautiful, sunny and 70 degrees to be exact! Once you finish taking in the salt air and ocean breeze head to the village area and enjoy a day browsing through the island shops. As the old folklore, has it if you aren’t wearing green you will get pinched! We have plenty of shops throughout the Village and on the Island that you can find green. Visit Go Fish Clothing, Hope’s, or Island Breeze Clothing to find your green apparel. Don’t let your four-legged family members get pinched for forgetting their green! Stop by Island Dog, they have St. Patrick’s Day apparel for your fur babies! You could also make a stop by Smallcakes on Frederica Road and enjoy a St. Patrick’s themed cupcake! These vanilla cupcakes with green sprinkles look delicious! If you’d like to finish your day off in true Irish fashion and have a Heineken at Mellow Mushroom. With indoor and outdoor seating, it is an island favorite. They are known for serving great Pizza but they also have a packed menu of delicious items on their menu as well as a unique and diverse selection of Craft Beer!

Shop ’till you drop! With so many great local shops you won’t leave empty handed. From boutique style home décor and clothing shops to wine and candles stores you will find treasures you just can’t live without. Have fun in the sun! Of course, our main attraction on St. Simons island is the Beach! You can’t beat a relaxing day with family and friends relaxing with the coastal sun shining bright. Grab a towel and some chairs and head to the closet beach access to get your day of relaxation started.

The Golden Isles is filled with great history so if you are a history buff take some time out of your schedule to visits monuments like Fort Frederica, Christ Church, or hop on the trolley tour to see all the great points of interest the island has to offer!

The 2018 Pup Crawl Bark For Life Kickoff event is happening tomorrow morning from 11am until 2p. $25 at the gate will get you in the door! You don’t want to miss this awesome fundraising event; you and your furry friends will have a blast. Be sure to make your way to 410 Mallery Street between 10:15am and 11:30am to get registered. By coming out and supporting the Bark for Life you will be helping the American Cancer Society save lives! Don’t miss out!

With Black History Month ending you will not want to miss out on learning about the slave ship Wander that brought people to Jekyll Island in 1858. You will get a behind the scenes look and to hear real live experience as well as enjoy a sneak peek of the upcoming exhibit. Tomorrow is your last opportunity to go visit so be sure to be at St. Andres Picnic Area on Jekyll tomorrow at 2pm.

Fort Frederica Nation Monument is hosting a celebration of Robert S. Abbott. If you don’t know much about Abbott you have got to come to Fort Frederica to hear about all the amazing stories about him! He was born to former slaves on St. Simons Island but grew up to launch the nation’s most important newspaper which helped him to become one of the first Black millionaires. Among many other accolades for his personal achieve his homes are also listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places and he has a ship, school, and park named after him!

If you are up for a challenge the Island Treasure glass float hunt is perfect for you! As history has it these glass floats were once used to mark the nets of fisherman and occasionally they would get away and wash ashore. Now Jekyll Island selects artist from all over the country to create these one of a kind glass floats for lucky beach goers to find and keep!

Bob Meredith, who is originally from Georgia and now resides in the golden isles has been oil painting for over 40 years, he enjoys painting anything from custom portraits to landscapes to still life’s. He is known world wide for his most recent work in which he recreated store fronts that can be found in different places through out the country and world.

Cannon’s Point History Tours

January 13th, 2017

Come visit Cannons Point and get a glimpse into what life was like at cannons point during the plantation period. Tour groups will meet at the A.W. St. Simons Land Trust Oyster Roast

January 14th, 2017

Join the St. Simons Land Trust for its 17^th annual Oyster Roast which will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gascoigne Bluff. Local chefs will be preparing and donating Southern favorites like Low Country Boil, BBQ, and Oysters. There will be live music by the folk singer and acoustic guitarist Owen Plant. Tickets are $75 each.
