4^th of July week is a favorite time of year on St. Simons Island. For over 60 years, the St. Simons Island Sunshine Festival has been held in the Pier Village, welcoming all ages to celebrate!

On Friday, July 4, the race begins at 7:00am. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk 5K begins at 8:00am. The race starts and finishes at the Mallery Park (near the Dairy Queen and ball fields) on St. Simons Island.

The annual fireworks display is launched from the pier, so the best viewing areas are Neptune Park and nearby waterfront locations. Bring a chair, sit back and enjoy the show! Parking is tight, so arrive early, walk or bike.

How Far is Savannah from Jacksonville, Florida?

Jacksonville is only about 80 miles south, if you are looking to browse through a quaint downtown area or maybe you like more commercialized shopping, Jacksonville is the place to go! The downtown area is packed with unique clothing stores, restaurants, bars, city markets, and festivals as well as great theaters. Also in Jacksonville, there is a large outdoor mall with more shops than we can count. What’s a bachelorette party without dinner and dancing? A unique spot to try out is Reid Apothecary’s . Their menu is a mix of southern favorites and light bites. After dinner step back in time at the Study, an after hours speakeasy. Make sure to call before 4:30pm to get the password to the speakeasy. If you want to stay on the island head to Bennie’s Red Barn for a delicious steak dinner and walk next door for an outdoor dance party at the Tree Bar. Mid-island you’ll find Ember which has an eclectic range of dinner options and connected to the dining room is Ember Mas with unique cocktails, comfy sofas, live music and pool tables.

Relax on the Beach

It’s always important to plan one day to relax on the beach. St. Simons Island offers miles of sandy spots to soak up the sun. We recommend East Beach because of the easy access and parking. Massengale Park Beach is also a great option because of its close proximity to restaurants and shops.

Tip: Walk to Echo at King and Prince for mid-day refreshments.

With shopping centers scattered around all over the island, you can spend a day splurging with your girlfriends on all your favorite things. Redfern Village has everything from bathing suits to housewares to florals. Further north on the island are the Shops at Sea Island and Market Street which house favorites like Butlers Stash, Gentlemen’s Outfitters, and Cloister Collection. If it’s a keepsake you’re looking for then bike no further than the Pier Village, and after your time shopping on St. Simons Island, take a walk to the Lighthouse or grab lunch at one of the many restaurants nearby!

Dorothy’s Cocktail & Oyster Bar, named for chef and owner Daniel Auffenberg’s maternal grandmother, Dorothy Crane, is an upscale restaurant on St. Simons Island. Dorothy’s serves raw fresh seafood and another coastal cuisine alongside many dishes inspired by Daniel and his wife, Claire’s, travels to Southeast Asia. Valentines Day is right around the corner and luckily in the Golden Isles that doesn’t mean you have to splurge on roses, or a fancy dinner. Here in the Golden Isles lies an outdoor oasis that makes a perfect backdrop for a romantic Valentines.

If you’re up for an adventure and want to share something magical together, then take to the rivers for a kayaking trip with Southeast Adventures. With two – four hour trips, you could spot dolphins, search for shells, or take a romantic moonlight paddle through the coastal waters.

When you’d rather drink wine than paddle then the String of Pearls is for you. Offering sunset cruises and private charters filled with wine, music, and tasty bites you and your favorite someone can sail the night away in luxury.

St. Simons Land Trust Oyster Roast, January 21st. St. Simons Land Trust’s annual Oyster Roast has been considered a must-do event in the Golden Isles for more than 20 years. Enjoy live music, coastal cuisine and beverages from restaurants and partners across the Golden Isles; while learning about the St. Simons Land Trust initiatives and preservation efforts.

Island Treasure on Jekyll Island. January 1-February 29. Each year, artisans from around the country create handblown glass globes, reminiscent of floats fisherman attach to their nets. Each day, two to five globes are hidden throughout Jekyll Island for the public to find. Each is unique and stamped with the year to be a collector’s item for the lucky explorer who finds them.

And whether you want to make it a weekend extravaganza or simply add it into your itinerary, these Golden Isles events are sure to create lifelong memories.

Whiskey Wine and Wildlife: September 9th – September 12th. This wildly popular event held on Jekyll Island is a weekend filled with culinary delights, unique beverage tastings, and educational wildlife opportunities.

Georgia Tribute Festival: September 16th – September 19th. Marking the 65th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s breakout year, the 2021 Georgia Tribute Festival will be celebrating the king himself with Las Vegas style shows, live music, and impersonators in downtown Brunswick at the Ritz Festival.

Firebox BBQ on the Bluff: October 2nd. The Firebox Initiative Inc. was founded to help service industry employees who are in financial need because of an illness, accident or natural disaster by providing local scholarship opportunities to qualified applicants. This annual fundraiser is an opportunity to visit the island and support the restaurants and staff you’ve come to love.

Georgia vs. Florida Weekend: October 29th – October 31st. Each year bulldawg fans old and young make the pilgrimadge to Jacksonville, FL to see the two teams go head to head; and along the way make a popular pit stop in the Golden Isles. Festivities stretch from the south end to the north end of the island and include live music, outdoor game day viewings, and the annual Georgia Florida Golf Classic.

RSM Classic: November 15th – November 21st. Held at the Sea Island Golf Club, ranked by players as a course favorite, the RSM golf classic is the perfect way to spend a weekend on St. Simons Island. With several package options you can immerse yourself in the golf experience or simply take a day to walk amongst a picturesque oceanside golf course.
